Hardness Test Methods

SC1326: Knoop Hardness of Advanced Ceramics and Glasses

The hardness will be determined using a diamond indenter with a Knoop geometry at loads between 200g and 2000g according to ASTM C1326.  A minimum of five valid indents are recommended to obtain an average hardness value with an associated standard deviation for a given indentation load.



SC1327: Vickers Hardness of Advanced Ceramics and Glasses

The hardness will be determined using a diamond indenter with a Vickers geometry.  Tests can be conducted at loads between 0.25g and 60000g according to ASTM C1327.  A minimum of five valid indents are recommended to obtain an average hardness value with an associated standard deviation for a given indentation load.
