Swab Consulting LLC was founded in 2025 as an independent consulting firm specializing in the mechanical property testing of advanced ceramics and glasses. The firm is led by Dr. Jeffrey J. Swab, who brings over 40 years of experience as a Ceramic Research Engineer with the U.S. Army. Throughout his career, Dr. Swab focused on the development and in-depth understanding of the microstructure-property-processing relationships in polycrystalline ceramics. His work primarily concentrated on advanced ceramics used in armor applications, gun barrels, diesel and gas turbine engines, and the evaluation of glasses for transparent armor systems. Dr. Swab is highly regarded for his expertise in the mechanical and physical property evaluation, as well as the microstructural characterization, of these materials.
An internationally recognized authority in fracture analysis of advanced ceramics, Dr. Swab has spent more than four decades performing fracture analysis of ceramic components and specimens. His contributions have led to advancements in fractographic analysis techniques and the development of ASTM standard practice C1322.
In addition to his consulting work, Dr. Swab co-instructs the annual course "Fracture Analysis and Failure Prevention of Glasses and Ceramics" at Alfred University and taught for two years at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He has authored over 150 open literature publications and government technical reports and has delivered more than 200 presentations at technical conferences and symposia.
Dr. Swab received numerous Army commendations during his civilian career. He is a Fellow of the American Ceramics Society and an Associate Editor of the International Journal of Applied Ceramic Technology.
